Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer Intern
Department: Pultrusion Manufacturing / Operations
Location: Fife, WA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM
Duration: May 2026 - September 2026, Flexible, depending on school summer season
Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer Intern will support daily manufacturing engineering activities within a pultrusion manufacturing environment. This role will focus on improving throughput and yield on pultrusion finishing lines while maintaining accurate, up-to-date manufacturing documentation. The intern will gain hands-on experience working directly with engineering, operations, and production teams to drive process improvements and standardization.
Key Project
Pultrusion Finishing Line Optimization:
Lead or support a structured project aimed at increasing throughput and improving yield on pultrusion finishing lines. This project may include:
Process observation and data collection
Identification of bottlenecks, defects, and waste
Collaboration with operators and engineers to develop improvement ideas
Assisting with implementation and documentation of improvements
Tracking performance metrics before and after changes
Daily Responsibilities
Update and maintain manufacturing documentation, including:
MSPECs (Manufacturing Specifications)
Operator Manuals
Load Manuals
Offload Manuals
Sink Line Manuals
Other work instructions and standard operating procedures as needed
Support manufacturing engineers with:
Process documentation and standardization
Line balancing and workflow improvements
Data analysis related to scrap, yield, and throughput
Spend time on the manufacturing floor working closely with operators to understand processes and identify improvement opportunities
Assist with continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies)
Ensure documentation accurately reflects current processes and equipment configurations
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
Strong interest in hands-on manufacturing and process improvement
Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and process specifications
Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Effective communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement concepts
Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
Basic understanding of pultrusion, extrusion, or composite manufacturing processes
