What To Expect
As an Plastics Manufacturing Engineer at Tesla, you will design, implement, and improve Plastics molding automation and assembly processes. You will perform Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA) define the Automation and assembly line Layout, assembly processes, and Automated equipment. You will work with a highly motivated cross-functional team and deliver turnkey solutions to enable vehicle production at rate. You will develop processes for highest safety, quality, and efficiency while reducing overall cost. Involvement will start in design phase of new programs until stable production metrics are achieved.
What You'll Do
Collaborating with product engineering on design for assembly of various components to allow for an efficient assembly process that builds quality into the product
Participating in periodic design and process reviews during product development and ensuring correct specifications are set and best practices adhered to
Designing assembly processes, tools, and equipment that are efficient to operate and easy to maintain
Collaborate with Factory Layout Engineering to identify space constraints and availability and design Equipment and Process layouts accordingly
Collaborate with Material Flow and Packaging Engineering teams, to design layouts that allow for optimal routing of incoming and finished good delivery
Collaborating with Controls engineering team to ensure all Tesla equipment is built to Tesla standards for ease of Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Assessing and reducing risk in the assembly process using PFMEA methodology
Collaborating with external vendors and internal stakeholders to conduct design reviews of the production equipment throughout the development process
Supporting all engineering builds and verifying scalability of assembly processes
Developing and executing production process validation criteria using standardized metrics (cycle time, OEE, MTBF, etc.)
What You'll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience
3-5+ years of hands-on working experience with defining assembly processes and relevant fixture and equipment design
2+ years of Equipment Troubleshooting experience
3D Modeling experience (CATIA/ SOLIDWORKS) to design fixtures, Assemblies and perform tooling clash studies
AutoCAD 2D experience to design 2D line Layouts in Factory grids
Minitab experience to perform Statistical Process Control and Quality studies
20% Travel Requirement for Domestic and International travel
Strong foundation of problem-solving skills, statistical process control, design of experiments and simulation techniques
Understanding of Design for Assembly (DFM), lean manufacturing, and capacity planning techniques
Exceptional project management and leadership skills
