Tesla is seeking a motivated Equipment Engineer to support continuous operations and enable world-class manufacturing of Tesla’s cutting-edge battery packs. The Battery Pack provides energy storage for every Tesla vehicle. This is an exciting opportunity to support world-class automated equipment for Tesla’s Cybercab battery packs. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work on a critical subsystem in world-changing products.
The sustaining Equipment Engineer’s primary responsibility is to optimize Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) through continuous improvement to PLC/HMI logic, Robotics, Mechanical/Electrical subsystems, conveyance systems, etc. In addition, the Equipment Engineer will work with a cross-functional team to develop, introduce, and sustain new model/product/material introductions.
What You'll Do
Analyze and optimize production equipment to ensure safety while maximizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) in cost effective means while driving to achieve world-class quality levels
Champion continuous improvement projects to maximize yield, cycle time, and availability of equipment. Report metrics to upper management
Analyze data from various sources to identify trends in availability, efficiency and build quality. Diagnose issues causing downtime and efficiently identify root cause utilizing structured problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why and 8D
Develop Scada system to monitor, gather, and process real-time production data
Work hand in hand with process engineering and maintenance teams to resolve equipment issues, improve equipment reliability, and provide technical guidance
Support operations to aggressively ramp newly launched products to full-scale production and beyond
Manage workload with a positive attitude as a team player in a collaborative work environment
What You'll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics engineering or other Engineering discipline, or equivalent in experience
Strong experience with Siemens and/or Beckhoff control systems (PLC/HMI) and industrial robots (Fanuc)
Exceptional problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly
Have a demonstrated track record of Overall Equipment Effectiveness improvement activities
Demonstrated experience in supporting and ramping a high volume, automated and semi-automated manufacturing line
Strong ability to work and communicate effectively with team and peers within a manufacturing and engineering organization. This includes excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience Vision inspection systems preferred, such as Keyence 2D image inspection and profilometry preferred
Ignition Automation and/or Python experience is highly desired
