Job Summary

The Manufacturing Department Leader is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the manufacturing department to ensure efficient production, quality standards, and safety compliance. This role involves leading a team of supervisors and production staff, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborating cross-functionally to meet organizational goals.

Essential Job Duties/Functions (Not all inclusive)

  • Lead and manage manufacturing operations to meet production targets, quality standards, and delivery schedules.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and analyze production metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, maintenance, and supply chain teams to resolve issues and optimize processes.
  • Drive lean manufacturing initiatives and support cost reduction efforts.
  • Maintain accurate production records and prepare reports for senior management.
  • Participate in strategic planning and budgeting for the department.
  • Manage cost of manufacturing by keeping operational expenses within budget and investigating cost-reduction measures.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial Management, or related field (preferred).

Work Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

Required & Preferred Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and a strong ability to build rapport with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in production planning software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic global environment with multiple changing priorities.

Work Environment

The performance of this position normally requires exposure to a typical manufacturing environment that requires the use of personal protective equipment including steel-toed shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection. Manufacturing areas may be affected by outside temperatures and machining.
