Marine Technician – LNG Fleet Operations (Job Description)

Role Overview

A Marine Technician in LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) fleet operations is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and ensuring the safe operation of technical systems onboard LNG carriers. The role supports both marine engineering and cargo handling systems, with a strong focus on safety and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Equipment Maintenance & Repair

Maintain and repair marine machinery such as engines, pumps, compressors, and valves

Ensure proper functioning of LNG cargo handling systems (cryogenic equipment)

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance

2. LNG Cargo Systems Handling

Monitor LNG containment systems and cargo transfer operations

Assist in loading/unloading LNG safely

Handle boil-off gas (BOG) systems and pressure control

3. Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

Identify faults in mechanical, electrical, and control systems

Perform root-cause analysis and implement fixes

Respond quickly to onboard technical emergencies

4. Safety & Compliance

Follow international maritime regulations such as International Maritime Organization standards

Ensure compliance with LNG safety procedures and environmental rules

Participate in safety drills and risk assessments

5. Inspection & Reporting

Conduct routine inspections of machinery and safety equipment

Maintain logs, maintenance records, and technical reports

Report defects and recommend improvements

6. Collaboration

Work closely with marine engineers, deck officers, and shore-based teams

Support dry-docking and vessel upgrades.
