MARINE TECHNICIAN / VESSEL CAPTAIN

Hydra Marine LLC is seeking a Marine Technician with Vessel Captain experience to support maritime operations in the San Diego area. This role combines small vessel operations, technical maintenance, and mission support for government and defense maritime operations.

The ideal candidate holds a U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License, has experience operating high-speed support craft and rigid inflatable boats (RHIBs), and is comfortable working in varied offshore conditions while maintaining high safety and operational standards.

Candidates must successfully pass a coxswain skills assessment and pre-employment drug screening prior to employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

VESSEL OPERATIONS

  • Operate and command small vessels including RHIBs and high-speed support craft in varying ocean conditions
  • Plan and execute maritime operations in support of commercial, government, and military testing activities
  • Navigate using marine radios, depth sounders, navigational aids, and electronic systems
  • Coordinate vessel movement, towing operations, and material handling as required
  • Manage crew manifest and maintain operational logbooks and records

VESSEL READINESS & MAINTENANCE

  • Prepare vessels for daily operations including fueling, inspection, and safety checks
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on marine systems
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues
  • Maintain working knowledge of vessel systems including electrical, plumbing, and water systems
  • Ensure vessels are clean, secured, and properly stored after operations
  • Support vessel pickup, transport, and delivery

COMPLIANCE & SAFETY

  • Ensure compliance with all U.S. Coast Guard, federal, state, and local maritime regulations
  • Maintain operational safety standards for all crew and equipment
  • Support safe offshore operations when missions require extended time on the water

QUALIFICIATIONS

  • Minimum USCG 6-Pack Captain License (required)
  • 2–5 years of experience as a marine technician or small vessel operator
  • Experience operating high-speed RHIBs in open ocean conditions
  • Familiarity with maintenance and repair of marine vessels and propulsion systems
  • Experience supporting military or government maritime operations preferred
  • Towing endorsement preferred
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate preferred
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to customer requirements
  • DoD Security Clearance (active or eligible) is an advantage
  • Must be in compliance with the DRUG TESTING REQUIREMENTS FOR CHARTER VESSEL 46 CFR parts 4 and 16, 49 CFR Part 40, 33 CFR 95
  • Clean driving record with no license violations within the past three year

COMPENSATION

Compensation is competitive and based on experience.
