Market Operations & Delivery Control Lead

Summary
The Market Operations organization enables Northern Trust to meet the needs of institutional clients with global investment portfolios, ensuring that their assets are managed effectively and safely across different markets. Key operational services include Capital Markets, Securities, Liquidity, Collateral, Banking, and Client Onboarding.

Reporting to the Market Operations Practice Executive, this key leadership role will act as point of coordination and collaboration between the COO Enterprise 1LOD, 2LOD, and 3LOD teams and the Market Operations business unit teams to manage and mitigate risk associated with business unit controls and operational resiliency. The role will also manage the global center of excellence responsible for processing level 1 and level 2 reconciliations for the firm and is accountable to align with and adhere to the 1LOD reconciliation standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the capability owners to drive consistency and standardization globally across Market Operations to ensure compliance with organizational policies, standards and controls and effectively execute the following business processes to include (but not limited to):
  • 1LOD testing (RCSA, SOC/SOX, other controls)
  • RCSA Execution/Risk Identification
  • Issues Management
  • Risk Events, Accounting Servicing Losses (ASLs), and root cause reviews.
  • Internal audits and regulatory exams
  • Business process/procedures documentation
  • Risk reporting (KPI/KRI)
  • Related enabling training and communications
  • Develop engagement approach and accountability between Market Operations and 1LOD, 2LOD, and 3LOD functions to enable compliance and manage and mitigate across risk categories.
  • Routinely gather data, insights, and status of programs and prepare and provide meaningful updates to senior leadership, Operational Risk and COO Risk Committees, and regulators
  • Accountable to create and manage capacity plan and execution against timing and key deliverables requested by key risk stakeholder groups
  • Manage a global team; recruit, hire, manage and develop talent; recognize wins and retain top talent.

Qualifications | Experience | Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field preferred
  • 15 + years in the financial services industry with in-depth expertise in Control, Resiliency, Compliance, or Audit functions within a regulated environment
  • Global management experience working across Legal Entity structures and locations.
  • Background in Cash, Securities, and/or Capital Markets
  • Program/Project management experience preferred.
  • Expert at synthesizing multiple data sources and information to develop and articulate a cohesive view of the risk environment and potential impacts to the business/firm. Highly capable of analyzing and assessing risk and control matters and driving collaborative decision making.
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to change, often managing multiple priorities and stakeholders and able to easily adjust to changing needs/deliverables/timing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and executive presence needed to influence and persuade others and drive key messages and change across a broad, diverse, matrixed stakeholder group.
Salary Range:
$171,700 - 300,500 USD
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
