The University of Tennessee Foundation, Inc (UTFI) invites applications and nominations to fill the position of
Marketing Cloud Email and Automation Specialist.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Digital Strategy and Innovation, the Marketing Cloud Email and Automation Specialist is responsible for
creating, editing, and deploying email c
ommunications that drive alumni, donor, and stakeholder engagement across the University of Tennessee System and its campuses.

This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring a seamless, consistent, and brand-compliant user
experience for email communications, journeys, and automation built in Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
Additionally, this role will assist in QA processes, email performance analysis, and reporting to measure
effectiveness and optimize future campaigns.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Email Design and Deployment:
Build, edit, and deploy email campaigns using Salesforce Marketing Cloud, ensuring alignment with UTFI and campus branding and messaging standards. Design and maintain email templates in Content Builder, focusing on mobile responsiveness, accessibility,

and user experience. Develop and test automation workflows, including complex journeys, transactional emails, and triggered communications.

Quality Assurance (QA) and Process Management: Assist with comprehensive QA testing for email campaigns to ensure functionality, formatting, and accuracy before deployment. Help develop and maintain a robust QA checklist and documentation to streamline processes and prevent errors. Collaborate with team members to ensure data extensions, segmentation, and personalization rules are correctly implemented in campaigns.

Performance Analysis and Reporting: Monitor email performance metrics (open rates, click-through rates, conversions, etc.) and provide actionable insights to stakeholders. Develop a rubric of A/B testing ideas and a method to track results. Conduct A/B testing to optimize subject lines, calls-to-action, content layout, and other campaign elements. Generate regular reports to evaluate campaign success and recommend strategies for improvement.

Required Education and Experience

The candidate who fills the
Marketing Cloud Email and Automation Specialist
p
osition is required to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 2+ years of experience in email marketing and campaign management, with a focus on platform- specific execution

  • Proficiency in Salesforce Marketing Cloud or similar email marketing automation platform.

  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS for email design.

  • Experience with QA processes and troubleshooting in email marketing.

  • Project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and manage priorities.

  • Knowledge of email accessibility and compliance best practices (e.g., WCAG, CAN-SPAM).

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, especially when working with cross-functional teams.

  • Proficiency in analyzing campaign metrics and making data-driven recommendations.

A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required due to travel responsibilities of the position. UTFI reserves the right to consider all appropriate circumstances. In general, any significant driving offense less than 12 months old will eliminate the application from consideration for the position.

Preferred Education and Experience

In addition to meeting the required qualifications, the preferred candidate will have:

  • Master’s degree

  • Certification in Salesforce Marketing Cloud or a related email marketing platform.

  • Advanced knowledge of email marketing platforms, specifically Salesforce Marketing Cloud (Content
    Builder, Journey Builder, Email Studio).

  • 3+ years of experience in email marketing, especially in higher education or nonprofit organizations.

  • Strong editing and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail and brand consistency.

  • Experience optimizing email automation workflows and journeys for improved engagement.

  • Demonstrated success with HTML/CSS for email design.

  • Demonstrated success in improving email marketing performance through A/B testing and strategic reporting.
