Position Overview

The Hazelnut Industry Office is seeking a Communications and Marketing Manager to support communications, outreach, and marketing activities for the Pacific Northwest hazelnut industry. This position operates in a fast-paced and growing agricultural sector and plays an important role in communicating with growers, handlers, researchers, and industry partners.

Working closely with the Executive Director, this role supports the development and execution of communications and marketing initiatives that inform industry stakeholders and strengthen the visibility and reputation of Oregon hazelnuts and the work of the organizations the office supports.

This is an execution-focused professional role suited to candidates who are comfortable working independently, managing multiple communications channels, and producing polished written materials with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a professional environment that supports multiple industry organizations and governing boards.

The position also supports the development and execution of marketing and promotional initiatives designed to strengthen the visibility of Oregon hazelnuts and the broader industry. This includes coordinating with and overseeing the work of approved external contractors and service providers supporting communications, marketing, and promotional activities.

This position is based in Wilsonville, Oregon and requires regular in-office presence.

Key Responsibilities

The Communications and Marketing Manager is responsible for producing clear, accurate, and timely communications that support the work of the Hazelnut Industry Office and its affiliated organizations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Drafting and distributing newsletters, announcements, reports, and routine communications to industry stakeholders.
  • Maintaining and updating website content and digital communications platforms.
  • Developing grower-facing materials including handbook content, informational documents, and industry guidance materials.
  • Preparing communications and materials supporting meetings, conferences, and industry events.
  • Creating engaging content including articles, press releases, social media updates, and promotional materials.
  • Supporting marketing and promotional initiatives that strengthen awareness and engagement around Oregon hazelnuts.
  • Monitoring industry trends, media coverage, and stakeholder interests to identify communication opportunities.
  • Managing media inquiries and supporting media outreach when appropriate.
  • Proofreading and editing communication materials to ensure clarity, accuracy, and professional quality.
  • Maintaining organized records of communications materials, media contacts, and outreach efforts.
  • Supporting the development and execution of marketing and promotional programs that raise the profile of Oregon hazelnuts and industry activities.
  • Coordinating with and overseeing approved external contractors and vendors supporting communications, design, digital content, or marketing initiatives.
  • Tracking timelines, deliverables, and communications materials produced through external contractors.
  • Working closely with the Executive Director to ensure messaging reflects current priorities and complies with applicable policies and funding requirements.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will demonstrate strong communications and marketing capability, sound professional judgment, and the ability to work independently in a collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment.

Candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field, with demonstrated responsibility for developing written communications, managing digital content, and supporting marketing or promotional initiatives.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clear, professional communications across multiple formats including newsletters, reports, website content, announcements, articles, and industry materials.
  • Experience managing digital communications, including website content management systems, digital platforms, and social media channels.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with diverse audiences including industry stakeholders, board members, media representatives, and partners.
  • Experience developing marketing and promotional materials, including press releases, articles, digital content, and promotional communications supporting industry initiatives.
  • Experience supporting or managing marketing programs or campaigns, including trade development, promotional activities, or industry outreach initiatives.
  • Ability to research industry trends, monitor media coverage, and identify opportunities that support marketing, communications, and industry promotion.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and deliverables simultaneously.
  • Experience coordinating external contractors or vendors, including designers, marketing agencies, digital service providers, or other communications professionals.
  • Experience tracking timelines, deliverables, and program activities, including work supported through grant-funded marketing or promotional programs.
  • Proficiency with common communications and content management tools, including digital publishing, document editing, and collaborative project platforms.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to contribute where needed in a fast-paced, small-team environment, with the ability to balance independent work with collaborative projects.
  • Professional, collegial approach to teamwork, with a strong service orientation and commitment to supporting shared organizational goals.
  • Familiarity with AP Style or comparable editorial standards.

A Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field is required.

Experience working within nonprofit organizations, trade associations, agriculture, commodity groups, or regulated environments is beneficial but not required.

This role offers the opportunity to work at the center of a growing agricultural sector while helping inform industry stakeholders and support communications that strengthen the long-term success and visibility of Oregon hazelnuts.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
