Purpose
The Marketing Communications Specialist supports the planning and execution of marketing, communications, public relations, and social media initiatives to increase awareness of the organization’s mission and inspire the support of funders, donors, media, staff, and the community.
This role collaborates closely with the Marketing Communications Strategist to develop and deliver content across platforms, support fundraising and program communications, and ensure consistent messaging and brand representation. The specialist engages across departments to assist with marketing initiatives and organizational communications efforts.

Responsibilities
Social Media & Online Community Management

Implement and support ongoing social media initiatives to advance YWCA programs and brand awareness.

Maintain and grow YWCA’s social media presence in a manner that engages current community members and attracts new audiences.

Create, schedule, and publish content across all social media channels in alignment with the organizational communications calendar and agency priorities.

Identify opportunities to engage with community partners online to expand YWCA’s reach, including monitoring partner sites for shareable content.

Support reputation management by monitoring online feedback through social listening and identifying opportunities and potential concerns in the digital space; respond appropriately as needed.

Assist with social media advertising campaigns; monitor, track, and report on campaign performance using tools such as Google Analytics and platform-specific analytics tools.

Manage online listings and review platforms such as Yelp and Google Business, leveraging user feedback to advance the mission of YWCA.

Stay current on evolving online marketing trends and recommend strategies to strengthen digital communications efforts.

Provide data analysis and benchmarking from social media initiatives to inform future communications planning and decision-making.

Optimize digital content for search engines and maximize performance across targeted social platforms.
Communications & Content Creation
-
Develop and execute content across platforms including website, social media, email campaigns, and promotional materials in support of organizational priorities.
-
Convene and collaborate with YWCA staff to gather information and develop messaging that effectively communicates program impact and organizational initiatives.
-
Create and update content on ywcastl.org to promote events, initiatives, and programs while supporting search engine optimization efforts.

Develop communications that support fundraising activities, donor engagement, and community awareness in coordination with the development and program teams.

Maintain online properties through consistent copywriting, editing, and content management.
-
Maintain the internal communications calendar and SharePoint site, including asset and document management.

Support the development and execution of internal and external email marketing campaigns to promote initiatives, inspire support, and update the community on organizational impact.

Assist with traditional marketing activities, including print and broadcast advertising and long-form video production.
Public Relations
-
Support the organization’s public relations efforts to enhance visibility and strengthen relationships with media outlets and community partners.

Write, proofread, and distribute press releases and other communications materials to traditional and online media outlets.

Monitor media coverage and identify opportunities to elevate the organization’s voice and mission.

Attend evening and weekend events as needed to support the organization.

Requirements:
Required Knowledge and Skills
-
3+ years of professional experience in marketing, communications, or a related field, which may include internships.

Exceptional written and verbal communication and proofreading skills across multiple platforms. Writing samples required; selected candidates may complete an assessment.

Proficiency in Canva and related content creation tools.

Demonstrated knowledge of current social media trends, platforms, and best practices.

Proven project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards.

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments and teams.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and related business applications.

Experience with email marketing platforms and campaign management tools.

Working knowledge of website management systems; proficiency in social media platforms and analytics tools is preferred.

Understanding of basic public relations principles and practices, including knowledge of media relations and digital communications.

Ability to analyze marketing performance metrics and use data to inform communications efforts
Formal Education
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, English, Communications or related field is preferred.
Physical Demands

Requires the ability to walk, bend, and lift occasionally (up to 10-15 lbs.).

This position is a desk job that requires walking between offices, driving to meetings, and lots of moving around when helping with large events.
