Description

In this role, you will be responsible for executing high-impact marketing campaigns, managing our digital platforms and the hundreds of users who contribute content to them, and representing our work in meetings across the organization. You’ll work closely with the Marketing & Creative Manager to bring strategy to life, ensure our platforms and content meet high standards, and develop your team to perform at their best.

This position reports to the Marketing & Creative Manager within the Town Manager's Office.

Applicants must provide attachments or links to examples of their work in marketing and digital platform management, including but not limited to website design and/or development, marketing campaigns, and writing samples.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Execute Marketing Campaigns and Content Writing

  • Lead the execution of marketing and communications plans for high-profile Town initiatives and events.
  • Write and edit critical content including major news releases, campaign materials, and communications that represent Cary to external audiences.
  • Coordinate with divisions and departments across the organization to develop campaigns, gather input, ensure communication strategy alignment and that we are telling the right stories effectively.
  • Be accountable for ensuring our most visible work meets the highest standards.
  • Manage content creation and curation within the marketing team by delegating work, providing constructive direction and feedback, and reviewing and approving content.

Manage Staff and Digital Marketing Platforms

  • Supervise marketing communications staff members, including setting priorities, providing performance feedback, supporting professional development, and ensuring quality work product.
  • Serve as the owner and subject matter expert for our digital marketing platforms, including our website (Granicus CMS), email marketing system (HubSpot), and social media management tool (Sprout Social). Our website alone has hundreds of contributors across Town departments, requiring strong governance, training, and standards.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with your team, make decisions about platform usage and configuration, train staff on best practices, establish standards for accessibility and quality, and coordinate with IT and vendors when issues require escalation.
  • Serve as the primary on-call contact for critical technical issues with marketing-owned platforms, including website outages and system failures.
  • Read and edit HTML and CSS to troubleshoot formatting issues and make basic fixes, including coding when necessary.
  • Serve as a brand and standards authority when evaluating new digital tools, reviewing work from external contractors and consultants, or assessing any web-based platforms that will represent Cary.
  • Provide standards guidance and evangelize best practices in accessibility, digital media, and communications to Town staff
  • Train users in various marketing technology platforms
  • Stay current on trends and technology in the marketing and communications industries

Represent the Marketing Division

  • Attend meetings on behalf of the marketing team as needed, including briefing colleagues on campaign progress, coordinating with other departments on communications strategy, and presenting to senior level audiences and about initiatives.
  • Be able to articulate our work clearly, respond to questions with credibility, and represent the team effectively in settings where strategic decisions are made.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated marketing and communications experience, including campaign execution, content creation, and digital marketing
  • Excellent speaking, writing, and editing skills with proven ability to produce high-profile communications
  • Advanced technical proficiency with enterprise CMS platforms, email marketing automation tools, and multi-channel social media management systems, with proven ability to support hundreds of content contributors, manage complex integrations, and resolve advanced formatting and performance issues using HTML/CSS and basic JavaScript.
  • Ability to represent work effectively in meetings with senior staff and stakeholders
  • Experience managing and developing staff
  • Strong understanding of marketing strategy, lead generation tactics, and campaign measurement
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards, SEO fundamentals, and digital communications best practices
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain momentum on multiple initiatives
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills with ability to work across departments
  • Ability to represent work credibly in meetings with senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of brand standards and governance in complex organizational environments
  • Ability to train and support users of varying technical skill levels
  • Problem-solving skills with ability to diagnose technical issues and determine appropriate escalation
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Journalism, English, Communications, or comparable area of study and a minimum of five years of experience planning and executing marketing and/or public relations campaigns.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive experience as a technical and subject matter expert in managing a large-scale, multi-contributor (50+ users) enterprise-level content management system serving over 1 million visitors annually
  • Extensive experience writing content for social media, web, emails, and print
  • Considerable experience using Granicus, HubSpot, and/or Sprout Social
  • Considerable experience supervising or directly managing marketing or communications teams.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work in this class is generally inside and sedentary. An employee must be able to move throughout Town facilities freely to perform or observe work. Visual acuity is necessary in order to read and write handwritten and typewritten materials and view screens. An employee in this position must be able to talk and hear in order to be able to respond to the public and other employees.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Requires possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal history check, SBI finger-printing, motor vehicle records check, education verification and credit history review) and satisfactory reference checks prior to employment.
