Marketing Intern

Job Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic Technical Marketing/Administration Intern to join our dynamic Product/Marketing Department here at Hi! People (Cannabis Dispensary). This is paid internship, which offers an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment. As a Marketing Intern, you will assist in executing/developing marketing strategies, content/creative, supporting campaign development, analyzing performance metrics, helping develop landing pages, helping develop light software infrastructure, and assist with administrative work load. Your energy, creativity, and willingness to learn will help drive brand awareness and engagement across multiple channels. This role is perfect for someone passionate about the cannabis industry who wants to develop practical skills within the Marketing and Software Development.

Internship Pay Range: $15 - $18 Depending on skillset

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Marketing Strategy & Campaign Support

  • Assist in developing and executing multi-channel marketing campaigns across social media, email, SMS, and in-store promotions
  • Support brainstorming and planning sessions for product launches, seasonal promotions, and brand initiatives
  • Help maintain the marketing content calendar and ensure deadlines are met across deliverables
  • Research industry trends, competitor activity, and customer behavior to inform campaign direction

Content & Creative Development

  • Draft copy for social posts, email newsletters, product descriptions, blog entries, and promotional materials
  • Design visual content (graphics, short-form video, photography) using Canva, Figma, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Generate and edit AI-assisted imagery using Nano Banana for product mockups, social content, and campaign visuals
  • Leverage Claude and ChatGPT to accelerate copywriting, brainstorming, content drafts, and research workflows
  • Maintain brand voice and visual consistency across all touchpoints
  • Coordinate with budtenders, photographers, and outside vendors when needed for asset creation

SEO & Organic Discovery

  • Apply on-page SEO best practices to website pages, landing pages, and blog content (titles, meta descriptions, headers, alt text, internal linking)
  • Conduct keyword research focused on cannabis-related and local search terms relevant to our market
  • Optimize the company's Google Business Profile to improve local search visibility, including categories, attributes, photos, posts, and Q&A
  • Monitor organic search performance and identify opportunities to improve rankings, click-through rates, and traffic
  • Stay current on SEO trends, algorithm updates, and best practices specific to regulated industries like cannabis

Web & Light Software Infrastructure

  • Help build and maintain landing pages for campaigns, promotions, and product launches
  • Assist with basic front-end updates to the company website (HTML/CSS adjustments, image swaps, copy updates)
  • Support light software/infrastructure tasks such as integrating marketing tools, configuring tracking pixels, setting up automations, and maintaining CRM/POS data integrity
  • Troubleshoot minor technical issues with marketing platforms and escalate larger issues appropriately

Performance Analysis & Reporting

  • Track KPIs across campaigns including reach, engagement, conversion, and ROI
  • Pull data from Meta Business Manager, Google Business Profile, the dispensary POS system, and email/SMS platforms
  • Build simple dashboards or weekly reports to share findings with the team
  • Monitor and respond to customer reviews, messages, and inquiries through Meta Business Manager and Google Business Profile
  • Identify patterns and suggest data-informed improvements to ongoing efforts

Administrative Support

  • Organize digital files, assets, and shared drives within Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Gmail)
  • Schedule meetings, take notes, and follow up on action items
  • Assist with vendor communication, invoice tracking, and basic procurement tasks
  • Help maintain compliance documentation related to cannabis marketing regulations
  • Support general office and departmental needs as they arise

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Must be 21+ (required for cannabis industry employment)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting priorities
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Genuine interest in the cannabis industry and willingness to learn its regulatory landscape

Required Technical Skills

Candidates must be familiar with and able to demonstrate working proficiency in the following tools and disciplines:

Design & Creative

  • Canva — for quick-turn graphics, social templates, and branded assets
  • Figma — for collaborative design, landing page mockups, and asset handoff
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or Premiere) — for higher-fidelity creative production
  • Nano Banana — for AI image generation, editing, and product/lifestyle visuals

AI & Productivity

  • Claude — for copywriting, content ideation, research, and workflow assistance
  • ChatGPT — for copywriting, brainstorming, and general productivity tasks
  • Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar) — for daily collaboration, documentation, and reporting

Marketing & Local Presence

  • Meta Business Manager — for managing Facebook and Instagram presence, posting, messaging, and analytics
  • Google Business Profile — for managing the company's local listing, reviews, posts, photos, Q&A, and insights
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO) — solid foundational understanding of on-page SEO, keyword research, local SEO, and how organic search drives discovery

Additional Technical Skills (Preferred)

  • Working knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, LinkedIn) from a brand perspective
  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS; bonus points for JavaScript, React, or experience with website builders (Webflow, WordPress, Shopify, Dutchie)
  • Familiarity with SEO tools such as Google Search Console, Ahrefs, SEMrush, or Ubersuggest
  • Familiarity with project management tools (Notion, Asana, Trello, ClickUp)
  • Experience with automation tools (Zapier, Make)

Soft Skills

  • Creativity and a strong sense of visual and brand aesthetics
  • Self-starter who can take initiative and ask smart questions
  • Collaborative team player comfortable with feedback
  • Adaptability — cannabis marketing has unique restrictions, and creative problem-solving is essential
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn both marketing and technical disciplines

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
