Marketing Specialist

Under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Manager, the Marketing Specialist is responsible for the District’s digital media content, website management, and managing the District’s social media platforms, in addition to the District’s photography and video. The position also assists with the development of public information and marketing strategies for the District and conducts outreach and community engagement. This is a non-exempt, hourly position that requires flexible hours including evenings and weekends, as needed.

If offered the position, the applicant is required to complete the District’s Employment Application and successfully pass a physical examination, drug screening, criminal background check and driver’s exam

REPORTS TO: Marketing and Communications Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communication, Graphic Design, or related field. Possess an understanding of marketing and advertising principle. Experience in community outreach, marketing, digital media, content creation, and social media management. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Graphic design experience utilizing Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and social media platforms is a plus. Photography and videography production skills preferred. Experience writing engaging copy. Highly organized, detail-orientated and professional. Must have the ability to work on several projects at one time in a fast-paced environment. Valid Illinois Class “D” driver’s license is required. CPR required within six months of employment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Develop a social media content calendar through social media management software.
  • Create online content that is informative and encourages community members to engage.
  • Maintain and monitor social media sites and respond accordingly to inquiries.
  • Provide on-site social media coverage at special events.
  • Create a social media budget.
  • Maintain the District website and keep information up-to-date.
  • Assist with the development of marketing plans.
  • Assist with sponsorship initiatives, such as tracking, outreach, contracts, and deliverables.
  • Attend special events and act as the district’s photographer and videographer.
  • Have the ability to edit images for use in print or digital.
  • Maintain a digital photo library.
  • Assist with signage updates across park facilities.
  • Assist the Marketing and Communications Manager and staff with marketing plans and materials, marketing budget, community outreach, presentations, and displays.
  • Assist with updates and edits of print and digital marketing materials including program event flyers, camp and aquatic guides, posters, and other district promotional materials as needed.
  • Responsible for the programs promoted on the district marquees and for informing the Village of events for their list serve, cable bulletin board and Village marquee.

  • Follow the Risk Management Manual, Emergency Response Plan, and OSHA compliance policies.
