Massage Therapist (Hospital) - Orlando Health Cancer Institute

Position Summary:

Position Summary

Works with patients who have impairments, limitations, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease or other stress-related causes. The Massage Therapist role includes examination, evaluation, and interventions toward achieving the highest functional outcomes for each patient or client.

Work scheduel Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm

Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
  • Evaluates patients, gathering data from the patient, physician, interdisciplinary team meetings if available, family and significant other persons and data sources.
  • Assesses the clients' soft tissue condition, joint quality and function, muscle strength, and range of motion.
  • Confers with patients about their medical histories and any problems with stress and/or pain in order to determine whether
massage would be helpful.
  • Develops treatment plans which integrate with the continuum of care and have specific goals and objectives that specify which types of massage are to be used; re-evaluates and modifies treatment plan and goals when appropriate.
  • Massage and knead the muscles and soft tissues in order to provide courses of treatment for medical conditions and injuries or wellness maintenance.
  • Applies finger and hand pressure to specific points of the body and prepares and blend oils, and apply the blends to clients' skin, when needed.
  • Demonstrates competency in the use, care and maintenance of profession specific equipment, observing safety precautions and providing verbal explanations of the equipment and its purpose.
  • Adheres to State Practice Standards as outlined by the State Licensing Board and ensures complete documentation and accurate billing with the maintenance of treatment records.
  • Provides clients with guidance and information about techniques for postural improvement, and stretching, strengthening, relaxation and rehabilitative exercises.
  • Adheres to the professional code of ethics of the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

  • Participates in unit/department/hospital meetings, committees and/or task forces in collaboration with program manager.
  • Effectively and efficiently uses resources, time, equipment and supplies.
  • Participates in departmental process improvement.
  • May develop and utilize other treatment interventions that are related to complementary medicine health spa/salon services that
they have current licensure and certifications.

Qualifications:
Education/Training
High School diploma or equivalent required.

Licensure/Certification

  • Maintains current Florida State Licensed Massage Therapist.
  • Maintains current certification from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork Certified Massage
Therapist (NCBTMB), or equivalent.
  • Maintains current Florida State licensure or National Board certification for other related complementary medicine health
spa/salon services (e.g., licensed facial specialist, or acupuncture/acupressure certification).

Experience

Five (5) years of experience in a general massage setting, or two (2) years in a medical setting.


**Oncology experience preferred**
