  • Reviewing and Vetting Materials: A key duty is to review the contractor's material submittals, including brochures, samples, and technical specifications, to ensure they meet the project's standards. This includes materials for civil, piping, and other infrastructure works.
  • On-Site Inspection: They perform regular inspections of materials delivered to the construction site. This involves checking for any damage, verifying quantities, and ensuring materials are stored correctly to prevent degradation.
  • Non-Conformance Management: If a material is found to be non-compliant or damaged, the inspector identifies the issue, documents it with reports and photos, and coordinates with the contractor to ensure corrective actions are taken. This is a critical part of their role in maintaining project quality.
  • Testing and Compliance: The Material Inspector ensures that all required material tests, whether on-site or in an accredited laboratory, are conducted according to the project's quality plan. They review the test results to confirm the materials meet the required standards.
  • Documentation and Reporting: They maintain detailed records of all material inspections, submittals, test results, and non-conformance reports. These records are then used to generate regular reports for the Resident Engineer or Assistant Resident Engineer, providing a clear overview of the material quality status on the project.
