Job Description: Materials Manager
Position Summary The Materials Supervisor leads a small, high-impact materials team in a fast-paced, competitive environment. This position balances hands-on execution with tactical thinking—coordinating forklift drivers and waterspiders while also designing processes, planning space usage, and anticipating future material needs. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-driven, and capable of zooming in to resolve issues on the floor and zooming out to see the bigger picture, ensuring the warehouse supports production not just today but for tomorrow’s challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Team Coordination & Leadership
- Directly coordinate a team of 2 forklift drivers and 3 waterspiders, setting daily priorities and ensuring smooth material flow.
- Motivate the team with energy and clarity, keeping pace with a demanding production schedule.
- Build accountability and teamwork, encouraging healthy competition and continuous improvement.
Material Flow & Operations
- Oversee receiving, put-away, picking, staging (“dressing” lines), internal transfers, shipping, and returns.
- Respond quickly to urgent needs while maintaining order and process discipline.
- Balance hands-on participation with tactical oversight—jumping in when needed but keeping focus on systemic performance.
Inventory Accuracy & Problem-Solving
- Lead cycle counts and ensure >98% inventory accuracy.
- Investigate discrepancies thoroughly, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain clean ERP data for real-time visibility of inventory levels.
Strategic Perspective & Process Design
- Zoom out to analyze overall material flow, warehouse layout, and space utilization—making changes that prepare for future growth.
- Zoom in to troubleshoot bottlenecks, quality issues, or material shortages in real time.
- Anticipate future production demands and proactively plan materials strategy to prevent disruptions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as the primary link between warehouse, production, scheduling, and purchasing teams.
- Ensure lines are continuously stocked to minimize downtime and meet on-time delivery goals.
- Provide excellent “customer service” to production while holding firm to process standards.
- Able to lift or maneuver up to 50 - 75lbs
Continuous Improvement & Safety
- Implement lean tools (5S, Kanban, visual controls) to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
- Lead or participate in kaizen events, always looking for a better way to do the job.
- Uphold all OSHA and company safety standards, maintaining a safe, organized, and audit-ready environment.
Compensation
- Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 depending on experience
- 9 paid holidays
- Starting PTO of 2 weeks/yr, accrued throughout the calendar year
