Core responsibilities

· Forecasting and planning: Analyze production schedules and forecast material needs to ensure a consistent supply.

· Procurement: Oversee the purchase of raw materials, components, and supplies by managing purchase orders, negotiating prices with vendors, and evaluating supplier performance.

· Inventory management: Monitor inventory levels, implement inventory control strategies like FIFO/FEFO, conduct cycle counts, and manage stock movement to prevent shortages or excess.

· Supplier relationship management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and develop a global supply base to meet production needs.

· Logistics coordination: Work closely with production, logistics, and warehouse teams to ensure materials are delivered to the right place at the right time.

· Compliance and quality: Ensure all material handling and storage operations comply with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

· Data and reporting: Track and analyze material usage, costs, and stock levels; generate reports and metrics on operational performance.

Key skills and qualifications

· Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field like logistics, supply chain management, or business administration is often required.

· Technical skills: Proficiency in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems like SAP or Oracle is essential.

· Supply chain knowledge: Strong understanding of supply chain processes, inventory management, procurement strategies, and demand forecasting.

· Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage a team of buyers and inventory specialists.

· Analytical and problem-solving: Strong analytical skills to interpret data and solve problems under pressure.

· Communication: Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with internal teams and external suppliers.
