Material Status Specialist (Production Control Specialist 2)

What You Will Do

The Procurement Engineering & Acquisitions Management Group (SCL-1) within the Weapons Production Directorate is seeking a seasoned professional with a full understanding of supply chain principles, is highly organized, self-motivated, and customer service driven, and will contribute to the development and growth of organizational goals and objectives.

The selected candidate will effectively contribute and work in a close team environment to compliantly review and track material related to Construction and Equipment Installation related procurement activities and resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways. The selected candidate will also assist in providing resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Tasks will include but are not limited to corresponding with suppliers and customers, tracking and expediting materials, tracking inventory data, and performing data quality reviews in various procurement tracking software systems. The Material Status Specialists of SCL-1 play an integral role in ensuring Lab-wide milestones and deliverables are met.

What You Need

  • Education/Experience: Position requires 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Functionality:

    • Proven record of reliability and can maintain consistent participation, promptness, and follow through on assigned tasks.

    • Experience in preparing reports for various customers by reviewing procurement related databases and documentation.

    • Demonstrates the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and contribute to a positive team environment.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
    • Highly adaptive and can adjust to changes in technology, strategy, and are receptive to constructive feedback.
    • Knowledge of production and/or inventory control, applications of production/inventory control methods, and application of technology aided tools to conventional and non-conventional programmatic and operations-based production/inventory control problems.
    • Knowledge of production and inventory control, and planning methods.
    • Knowledge of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards, and guides.
    • Knowledge of resource planning and optimization practices as well as multi-organization resource integration processes.
    • An awareness and willing to learn of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the particular engineering discipline.
  • Computing/Business Systems:
    • Above average computer skills and demonstrated proficient experience with relational databases, various inventory management systems, and the Microsoft Office suite of applications with the ability to piece together bits of fragmented data and provide an analysis.
  • Customer Service:
    • Exceptional customer service skills.
    • Proven ability to provide clear, concise guidance to others in sometimes-stressful situations.
    • Interact professionally with all types of personnel, including external vendors, and executive management.
  • Communication:

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience utilizing multiple procurement and inventory control systems.
  • Working knowledge of SAP Ariba.
  • Experience managing inventory or purchasing material in a highly regulated environment.
  • An awareness and willingness to learn supply chain management practices.
  • Experience tracking and expediting material and providing frequent status updates.
  • An awareness and willingness to learn industry quality drivers (NAP401.1, NQA-1, etc.).
  • An active DOE Q-level clearance.

Term Appointment: This offer of employment is for a term appointment, which is for up to 10 years and may terminate earlier.

Work Location: The work location for this position is on-site with the opportunity to transition to a hybrid schedule with locations in Los Alamos, NM and Santa Fe, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite (up to 80%)/partially offsite, but within a 2-hour ground commute of Los Alamos, NM. All work locations and schedules are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Work Schedule: This position may/will require 24/7 coverage, which could/will involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for the shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Term Position: Regular-status Laboratory employees applying for term-status positions may retain regular status with approval of the cognizant Principle Associate Director.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
