1. Plans the operation of the department by establishing budget, goals, and objectives, deciding on means to achieve goals, and formulating action plans.
2. Organizes the department by scheduling work assignments, establishing time frames, providing needed equipment and supplies, assigning authority and responsibility, and coordinating department activities.
3. Staffs the department by hiring qualified individuals, providing work place orientation, and initiating termination procedures as appropriate.
4. Influences organizational members by motivating employees, demonstrating leadership, promoting communication, and by supporting a team philosophy.
5. Controls operation of department by establishing performance goals or standards, evaluating actual performance, managing budget compliance, assuring adherence to organizational policy and procedures, initiating disciplinary actions, and by meeting regulatory and/or accreditation standards.
6. Reports to appropriate entity expense and revenue budget variations, statistical measures, Quality-Risk Management, activities, and unusual occurrences.
7. Implements programs, policy and procedures, and educational endeavors to assure quality operation of department.
8. Develops the department and employees by providing needs assessment, and education.
9. Performs the essential functions of Materials Management Assistant and Stock Clerk as needed.
10. Purchases supplies, capital equipment and other items on an as needed basis.
11. Responsible for the shipping and receiving of supplies and equipment.
12. Maintains and enhances the database of the Materials Management computer module.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of inventory management, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to physically handle inventory is required.
Education:
A college degree in Business Administration or allied field is preferred. A Masters Degree in Hospital Administration, Business Administration, Pharmacy, or any other appropriately related field is desirable.
Experience:
The Manager of Materials Management should have considerable familiarity (3 to 5 years) with supply, process, and distribution phases of Materials Management in the hospital or industrial setting. Also, he/she should be able to enumerate demonstrable results in his/her last position such as reduction of inventory, unification of supply and distribution functions, and centralization of all purchases.

JOB DESCRIPTION: PHYSICAL DEMANDS
An essential requirement is occasional lifting 6” from floor to waist up to 35 pounds, and 6” from floor to shoulder up to 35 pounds. It is also an essential requirement to be able to occasionally carry up to 35 pounds and push from 10 to 35 pounds. It is essential to have the ability to frequently bend, climb ladders, reach above shoulders and reach at or below shoulders. Another frequent requirement is fine manipulation, manual dexterity, repetitive motion, standing and walking. A marginal requirement is kneeling. An occasional essential requirement is crouching, gripping, stooping and twisting. Sitting at a workstation is a constant essential requirement. Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and exposure to hazardous materials. Requires the use of office equipment, such as computer terminals, telephones, fax, or copiers. Requires repetitive movements such as keyboard entry.
