Materials Manager

Job Summary

The Material Manager is responsible for managing and leading the material approval process across all projects, combining technical review expertise with effective team and process management. The role ensures that all materials are technically compliant, properly documented, and approved by consultants in a timely manner, while maintaining full control over material logs, coordination, and project requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review and validate material submittals to ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and BOQ.
  • Evaluate technical datasheets, compliance certificates, and test reports before submission.
  • Ensure all materials meet engineering standards and consultant requirements .
  • Support the team in resolving technical comments and securing approvals.
  • Lead the material submission and approval process with consultants and clients.
  • Ensure timely submission, follow-up, and closure of all material approvals.
  • Act as the main focal point for consultant comments and resubmissions .
  • Coordinate with procurement to ensure alignment between approved materials and purchasing.
  • Establish and manage material submittal logs for all projects.
  • Track and report submission status (approved / pending / rejected).
  • Ensure proper documentation, filing, and traceability of all material approvals.
  • Lead and supervise the materials / submittals team .
  • Define and implement standard workflows for material submissions and approvals.
  • Monitor team performance and ensure adherence to timelines.
  • Identify bottlenecks and improve efficiency in the approval process.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and site teams to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Ensure only approved materials are released for procurement and site use.
  • Support project teams in resolving material-related issues and delays.


Job Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering
  • Strong expertise in material submittals, approvals, and consultant coordination .
  • In-depth knowledge of construction materials, specifications, and standards .
  • Strong document review and technical evaluation skills.
  • Experience in material log tracking and reporting systems .
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and document control systems .
  • ERP knowledge (preferably SAP) is an advantage.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.

Experience

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in construction/materials management.
  • At least 5 years in material submittals and approval processes .
  • Experience in managing multi-project environments .
  • GCC experience is a strong advantage.
