Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced MFM Advanced Practice Sonographer (APS) to join our Maternal-Fetal Medicine team. This advanced clinical role is designed for a sonography professional with exceptional technical expertise and deep knowledge of fetal anomalies, maternal conditions, and disease processes affecting pregnancy.
The APS functions as a key member of a multidisciplinary care team, collaborating with perinatologists, sonographers, hospitalists, radiologists, and trainees to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. This role combines advanced clinical practice, patient communication, education, and quality improvement responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities

Perform and interpret advanced obstetric ultrasound examinations, identifying normal and abnormal findings

Recognize fetal anomalies and maternal conditions impacting pregnancy outcomes

Develop clear, accurate, and concise ultrasound reports under physician supervision

Communicate normal ultrasound results and care plans to patients as part of the care team

Collaborate closely with Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians and interdisciplinary team members

Provide mentorship, guidance, and training to sonographers, students, residents, and fellows

Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives

Utilize advanced scanning techniques and demonstrate strong interactive scanning skills

Exercise independent clinical judgment within scope of practice
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications

Extensive experience in advanced perinatal sonography
-
Demonstrated ability to mentor and support staff sonographers

Minimum of six (6) months of APS core clinical experience and training under physician supervision

Proven competency in:

Fetal ultrasound interpretation
-
Recognition of pathology

Clinical reporting of findings
Licensure / Certification

Certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) required

Fetal Echocardiography (FE) certification preferred or strongly encouraged
Continuing Education Requirements

Completion of at least 30 hours of approved Continuing Medical Education (CME) every 36 months in:

Obstetric ultrasound

Fetal echocardiography

Attendance at one major obstetric or gynecologic ultrasound conference annually

Must earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credits and/or AOA Category 1-A Credits
