Maternity Leave Developmental PreK Teacher

Elwood Elementary is seeking a dedicated and compassionate long-term substitute teacher to lead our developmental preschool classroom during a maternity leave period. This role provides a unique opportunity to support young learners with diverse developmental needs in a structured, nurturing environment that promotes growth across cognitive, social-emotional, communication, and motor domains.


Responsibilities

  • Provide daily instruction and classroom management for developmental preschool students, following established lesson plans and IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals.
  • Adapt curriculum and activities to meet the needs of students with varying abilities.
  • Implement evidence-based strategies that support early learning, communication, and social skills development.
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals, therapists, and other service providers to ensure continuity of care and instruction.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that fosters independence and growth.
  • Communicate effectively with families and staff regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Complete necessary documentation related to attendance, IEP implementation, and student progress.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or a related field (required).
  • Valid teaching license/certification in Early Childhood or Special Education (preferred or as required by the state).
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children and/or children with developmental delays or disabilities.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.


Schedule & Compensation

  • Full-time, school day hours, for approximately 8–10 weeks (December through February).
