Maxillofacial Surgery and Implantology Nurse

The Maxillofacial Surgery and Implantology Nurse is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and high-quality nursing support for patients undergoing oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures, dental implant placement, bone grafting, and related treatments. The nurse supports the surgeon before, during, and after procedures, ensures proper infection control and sterilization, monitors patient safety, and provides clear post-operative instructions and care.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Care

  • Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgical and implant procedures.
  • Review medical history, allergies, medications, and consent documents before treatment.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures.
  • Record vital signs and report any abnormalities to the treating clinician.
  • Provide post-operative nursing care and discharge instructions.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, wound care, medications, diet, and follow-up visits.

2. Surgical and Implantology Assistance

  • Assist the oral and maxillofacial surgeon or implantologist during procedures such as:
  • Dental implant placement
  • Tooth extractions and surgical extractions
  • Bone grafting
  • Sinus lift procedures
  • Minor oral surgery
  • Soft tissue procedures
  • Prepare and arrange surgical instruments, implant kits, materials, and consumables.
  • Maintain a sterile field throughout all surgical procedures.
  • Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and provide efficient chairside assistance.
  • Assist with suturing materials, irrigation, suction, and surgical workflow.

3. Infection Control and Sterilization

  • Follow all infection prevention and control protocols.
  • Ensure strict aseptic technique during surgery and implant procedures.
  • Clean, disinfect, pack, and sterilize instruments according to approved standards.
  • Maintain sterilization logs and instrument traceability records.
  • Ensure proper disposal of sharps, medical waste, and contaminated materials.

4. Implant and Surgical Inventory Management

  • Monitor stock levels of implant components, surgical kits, biomaterials, sutures, and disposables.
  • Check expiry dates and ensure proper storage of implants and surgical materials.
  • Prepare implant systems and verify all required components before procedures.
  • Report damaged, missing, or expired stock promptly.

5. Recovery and Post-Operative Support

  • Observe patients during immediate post-operative recovery.
  • Assist in managing pain, swelling, bleeding, or medical concerns as directed by the clinician.
  • Reinforce medication instructions and post-surgical precautions.
  • Arrange and coordinate follow-up appointments for review and suture removal where needed.

6. Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate nursing notes and treatment documentation.
  • Record surgery details, materials used, implant information, and patient status.
  • Support compliance with clinic policies, licensing requirements, and patient safety standards.
  • Assist in incident reporting and quality improvement activities when required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Valid professional nursing license in Qatar.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Additional emergency or surgical nursing certification is an advantage.
  • Previous experience in oral surgery, maxillofacial surgery, implantology, dental surgery, or operating theatre nursing is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of surgical nursing and dental implant procedures.
  • Understanding of sterile technique and infection control standards.
  • Ability to assist efficiently in surgical and implant cases.
  • Good patient communication and education skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to work calmly in a fast-paced clinical or surgical setting.
  • Professional, compassionate, and team-oriented attitude.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in a dental center, oral surgery clinic, implantology practice, or hospital surgical unit.
  • Familiarity with implant systems, surgical instruments, and biomaterials.
  • Experience in assisting with conscious sedation cases is an advantage, where applicable.

Pay: From QAR6,200.00 per month
