POSITION SUMMARY:
Supervises, manages, and trains Mechanic II. Performs skilled repair, installation, and preventative maintenance programs on all electronic equipment (i.e., security and fire alarm systems, data distribution wiring and fiber optic cabling, telecommunications and intercom equipment, video distribution and surveillance equipment, and educational electronic devices). This position reports to the Electronics Supervisor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists and trains Mechanic II positions with project management and assigned duties. Reports progress to employees and department supervisor. Performs all electronic repairs and/or installations. Installs electronic equipment, system, and associate wiring using appropriate safety procedures; accurately diagnoses electronic issues.
Performs preventative maintenance as required on various equipment and fixtures inside and outside of all District buildings.
Responsible for all assigned parts, tools, equipment, and/or vehicles; able to readily access all tools, parts, and equipment issued.
Utilizes various equipment (i.e., hand tools, wire cutters, soldering irons, test equipment, small drills, voltage meters, etc.) relevant to repairs and installations.
Assists with District and emergency and/or general assignments as operationally necessary.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED required.
Minimum two (2) years of low voltage/electronics experience required.
Makes repair decisions which impact the schools/buildings within the district
Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred. Trade/technical license/certificate preferred.
Makes decisions and recommendations under the guidance of Electronics Supervisor. Moderate independent judgement required.
Requires regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of importance; may require occasional contact with outside agencies and the District.
Provides in the field training, supervision, safety management and guidance to Mechanic II positions.
Applies, recommends, and implements technology concepts to improve the effectiveness of the department. Familiarity and knowledge of computer applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Google Suite).
Variable work environment – Facility Services Complex, school grounds, and all buildings; subjected to a wide range of weather conditions and temperatures.
Provides periodic on-call support after normal work hours (twenty-four [24] hours a day, seven [7] days a week) to alleviate emergency situations.
Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds frequently and one-hundred (100) pounds occasionally.
Walking, standing, kneeling, driving for eight (8) hours per day; must be able to climb a thirty (30) foot ladder and negotiate stairs.
Before being extended an offer of employment, selected candidates will be notified by the district to undergo the required physical examination for this position.
NOTE: This is a grade 21, 225-day position that pays for experience up to a Step 4.
