Mechanical Design Engineer (Mid-Level)

Company Overview

A growing fabrication and manufacturing company in Umm Al Quwain is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to drive projects involving storage tanks, trailers, generator enclosures, skids, and structural equipment. This role suits a technical professional who combines advanced CAD capability with deep fabrication awareness and practical manufacturing understanding.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed fabrication and manufacturing 3D CAD design for tanks, trailers, and power generator-related structures
• Produce shop-ready manufacturing drawings, accurate BOMs, and optimized cut lists.
• Conduct structural validation, including lifting studies and FEA simulations using SolidWorks.
• Integrate electrical components into mechanical designs, including mounting and clearance for ATS panels, Control Panels, busbars, and harnesses.
• Apply modular design approaches and Lean DFM to optimize for manufacturability, performance, and cost efficiency
• Manage design changes through standardized ECO/ECN workflows and PDM-controlled documentation.
• Produce technical renderings for sales and marketing using PhotoView 360 (Composer knowledge is an advantage)
• Coordinate closely with production teams to ensure designs are fabrication-ready
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to the workshop and production floor.
• Ensure compliance with international codes (UL, ISO, DNV) and project specifications.
• Comply with environmental protection and equipment safety

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• 2–4 years of experience in heavy fabrication or the power generator industry.
• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD (certification is an advantage)

Demonstrated experience in:

• Tank or pressure-related structures
• Trailers, skids, or chassis frames
• Power Generator enclosures or industrial equipment
• Deep understanding of fabrication stages, welding processes, bending allowances, and assembly sequences for sheet metal, piping, and structural chassis construction
• Solid understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles
• Practical experience conducting lifting analysis and FEA simulations

Technical Knowledge Requirements

• Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM and structured engineering change control systems
• Working knowledge of relevant design standards, including UL 142, UL 2200, ISO 8528, and DNV 2.7-1
• Ability to develop modular, parametric, and optimized design solutions

Preferred / Advantageous Skills

• Experience supporting or administering PDM systems
• Exposure to CAD automation or macros using C# or VBA
• Experience producing visuals or presentation models for commercial or proposal teams
