About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to design, analyze, and deliver large-scale mechanical systems for entertainment, amusement and attraction environments. The role involves everything from conceptual design, stress or load calculations, system installation and commissioning to safety / risk assessment and project leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Lead full system mechanical design from scratch: component selection, load/stress/fatigue/acceleration calculations
-
Perform risk & hazard assessments, including FMEA (Failure Modes & Effects Analysis), emergency evacuation scenarios, single-point failure minimization, and compliance with ASTM ride standards (e.g. F2291)
-
Develop technical documentation: theories of operation, detailed design descriptions, installation and acceptance test plans, maintenance and job plans
-
Produce detailed mechanical drawings, assemblies, and installation procedures using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks
-
Design, integrate, troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic control systems
-
Lead system commissioning, startup, and field debugging; ensure systems function correctly under site conditions
-
Act as technical lead on projects: matching technical requirements, mentoring junior engineers / technicians / contractors
-
Manage smaller projects (~$50,000–$250,000): budgeting, scheduling, procurement/subcontractor oversight, change orders, scope definition
-
Interface with multidisciplinary teams (electrical, controls, fabrication, field operations, safety) and with clients to ensure deliverables meet expectations
Required Skills & Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
-
Minimum
5-7 years
of relevant experience in mechanical systems design, analysis, and field work (strong preference for theme-park / ride design experience)
-
Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks for drawing generation and CAD modeling
-
Solid understanding of mechanical load calculations, stress/fatigue analysis, reliability and life expectancy studies
-
Experience reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical schematics / drawings
-
Strong oral and written communication, ability to prepare clear, concise documentation
-
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute project tasks; lead project phases and coordinate teams
-
Customer-focused, precise with detail and deadlines
-
Ability to travel to customer sites up to ~35%, lift up to ~50 lbs, perform physically demanding tasks (climbing, reaching, etc.)
Preferred Skills:
-
Familiarity with ASTM F2291 (Standard Practice for Design of Amusement Rides & Devices) and other safety / ride & attraction standards
-
Experience with ride/attraction systems: guest acceleration, ingress/egress, evacuation modeling, reach envelopes
-
Previous project management experience on mechanical projects
-
Experience in contract documentation, scope change management
-
Experience in field commissioning / startup / debugging on site
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
-
Work environments vary: office design work, shop / fabrication settings, and field / customer sites (construction / industrial / attractions environments)
-
Must comply with safety protocols, possibly wear protective gear, work in clean or semi-clean attraction sites
-
Physical requirements: standing, walking, lifting (~50 lbs), climbing, pushing/pulling, reaching, ability to handle mechanical tools and equipment
Standards & Safety Compliance:
-
All designs must comply with applicable local / government agency building, safety, and design codes
-
Must align with amusement ride safety standards (e.g. ASTM F2291 – Standard Practice for Design of Amusement Rides and Devices) for load, strength, acceleration, restraint, safety systems, etc.
