Mechanical Engineer (FLM)

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving manufacturing processes related to metal casting and CNC machining. This role focuses on process optimization, production support, quality improvement, and collaboration with operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing.

This is a First (1st) shift position at our Falcon Lakeside in Stevensville

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support and improve metal casting processes
  • Develop, document, and maintain process parameters, work instructions, and standard operating procedures
  • Troubleshoot production issues related to casting defects and machining variability
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support for production operations
  • Analyze cycle times, tooling performance, and equipment capability to improve throughput
  • Support capacity planning, line balancing, and workflow optimization
  • Support and improve manufacturing automation systems, including robotic cells, CNC automation, etc.
  • Assist with specification, installation, and validation of automated equipment
  • Troubleshoot automation-related production issues to minimize downtime
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives involving automation and smart manufacturing
  • Collaborate with maintenance, tooling, quality, and operators to resolve equipment and process issues.
  • Investigate quality issues and perform root cause analysis
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce scrap and rework


Other Responsibilities:

  • Utilize Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Support FMEA, SPC, and control plan development
  • Support new product introductions and production launches
  • Review part designs for manufacturability (DFM/DFA) for casting and machining
  • Assist with tooling, fixture, and gauge design
  • Participate in process validation and first article inspections
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards
  • Support ergonomic, safety, and risk-reduction initiatives on the production floor
  • Successfully communicate and work with all employees across the organization (engineers, program managers, production, maintenance & quality), customers & suppliers


Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably with casting and CNC machining, prefer five (5) years experience.
  • Experience in a production or plant-based environment preferred
  • Knowledge of metal casting processes, metallurgy, and solidification principles
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling, and fixturing
  • Experience working with manufacturing automation in a production environment
  • Familiarity with robotic systems and CNC automation
  • Basic understanding of PLCs, sensors, and industrial controls (troubleshooting level)
  • Experience supporting automation projects from concept through implementation is a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems a plus
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Hands-on, production-focused mindset
  • Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
