Introduction

Hall Group Design Engineering (HGD) is an engineering and architectural firm delivering integrated building design solutions throughout the Washington DC Metro region. We provide comprehensive planning, design, and engineering services for new construction and facility renovations, supporting commercial, retail, and institutional clients across a range of project types. HGD is looking for a technically sharp individual to join our team as a Mechanical Engineer (HVAC) to design and optimize heating, cooling, and ventilation systems across multidisciplinary projects.

Major Duties

The incumbent serves as a Mechanical Engineer (HVAC) under the Principal Engineer providing support for various mechanical designs, to include residential and commercial facilities.

Responsibilities include:

· Mechanical Design – 85%

  • Prepare mechanical plans, HVAC calculations (heating/cooling/ventilation), duct layouts, equipment selections, and specifications for various facility building types.
  • Identify mechanical and local jurisdiction code requirements for various facility building types.
  • Provide Quality Control design reviews for mechanical plans and specifications.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams

· Permitting & County Review Coordination – 10%

  • Provide responses to County Review comments related to mechanical design

· Construction Support – 5%

  • Provide responses to construction RFI submittals related to mechanical design

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Able to perform ventilation calculations.
  • 1+ year of experience using Manual J/N software
  • 1+ year of experience with drawing duct layouts
  • Familiar with using the International Building Codes (ICC)
  • Must have access to AutoCAD or AutoCAD compatible tools
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner
  • Self-motivated and able to work productively in a teaming environment
  • Available to provide timely support

Experience:

  • Drawing duct layout: 5 years (Required)
  • Performing Manual J (heating/cooling) calculations: 5 years (Required)
  • Performing ventilation calculations: 5 years (Required)

Education:

· BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering related degree (Required)

License/Certification:

  • EIT Designation (Required)
  • PE License (Preferred)

Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour
