Mechanical Engineer I - Spacecraft Programs

Job Description

Quantum Space is redefining mobility and autonomy beyond Earth orbit. Our Ranger spacecraft deliver high delta-V and sustained on-orbit maneuverability, enabling missions across cislunar and geostationary space that were previously out of reach. We are building the vehicles, infrastructure, and operational expertise that connect and protect assets across the Earth–Moon system.


Who We’re Looking For

Quantum Space is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to support the development of flight hardware for our Spacecraft Programs. This role is designed for an early-career engineer who wants to build strong fundamentals by contributing to real hardware from concept through integration and test.

You will work closely with experienced engineers, AIT, and manufacturing teams to execute well-defined scopes while learning how flight hardware is actually built, not just designed.


Where You’ll Make an Impact

  • Support design of mechanical components and simple subsystems under guidance
  • Create CAD models and detailed drawings in Creo, applying GD&T with mentorship
  • Assist in interface definition: envelopes, mounting schemes, and basic alignment features
  • Support hardware builds and integration activities, including hands-on work when needed
  • Assist with issue triage and root-cause investigations during integration and test
  • Contribute to verification efforts: fit checks, basic functional checks, and test documentation
  • Prepare clear documentation for design reviews and configuration tracking
  • Support supplier coordination through drawing clarifications and basic review feedback

What It Takes

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience (internships or project teams acceptable)
  • Exposure to CAD (Creo preferred, but not required)
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T principles
  • Strong fundamentals in mechanics, materials, and design
  • Willingness to work hands-on with hardware in a lab/integration environment
  • Work location within the DMV area

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Internship or academic project involving hardware build/test
  • Exposure to aerospace or space systems
  • Familiarity with basic analysis tools (FEA, MATLAB, or Python)
  • Experience with machine shop tools or prototyping
