A mechanical estimator evaluates the total cost of a project in various industries. As a mechanical estimator, your responsibilities include researching the materials, sourcing options, labor, and permit costs for a given project. You also work with contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to get appropriate estimates.
Mechanical Estimator Responsibilities & Duties
- Analyze project plans and specifications to create detailed cost estimates.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to determine the scope of work.
- Review and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Utilize estimating software to prepare accurate cost estimates.
- Evaluate and select suitable materials and equipment for projects.
- Prepare and submit bid proposals for mechanical projects.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
- Track and manage project budgets and expenditures.
- Communicate with suppliers and contractors to obtain pricing information.
- Assist in contract negotiations and finalizing project scope.
- Monitor and report on project progress and any deviations from the plan.
- Provide support during project implementation to ensure estimated costs are adhered to.
