Mechanical Technician

About This Role

To provide effective leadership and oversight of all welding and fabrication activities across all shifts, ensuring high-quality pipe‑fitting support for the refurbishment, maintenance, and repair of the processing plant and other surface infrastructure. The role is accountable for delivering these services safely, efficiently and in full compliance with operational standards, procedures and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take personal responsibility for personal safety and the safety of all mine workers affected by assigned tasks.
  • Liaise with Contractors and/or Construction teams on mechanical tasks related to refurbishment, planned work, and other activities aligned with the overall work plan and schedule.
  • Participate in all required training, development and performance improvement programs.
  • Carry out machining tasks including fabrication of equipment parts, pipe threads and fittings, pump bushings, and sleeves, in line with drawings and all regulations of the Government of Ghana and AGBL.
  • Conduct daily pre‑start inspections of tools and equipment before leaving the workshop and promptly report any abnormalities.
  • Assess tools and equipment required for each task, prepare checklists, and ensure safe transport of all necessary items to job sites.
  • Identify operational anomalies in machines, equipment, or cranes and escalate for corrective maintenance.
  • Provide accurate technical data to assist the Maintenance Planner in closing out work orders within the maintenance management system.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies


  • Minimum of Mechanical Engineering Technician Part II Certificate or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Mechanical Technician Certificate of Competency issued by the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably within a metallurgical processing plant environment.
  • Strong mechanical maintenance skills in mining or extractive metallurgy operations.
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from fabrication drawings and technical measurements.
  • Knowledge of welding methods, materials and relevant safety practices.
  • High attention to detail with an understanding that minor errors can lead to significant equipment failures.
  • Familiarity with Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations.
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural environment and respect other people values and opinions.
