Objectives of this Role

  • Cultivate a safe, secure, and healthy environment for patients and colleagues, and enhance the quality of service and care offered to patients and for respective provider(s)
  • Understand provider-to-patient flow to assist physicians and nurses in maintaining an efficient, productive office
  • Create and maintain relationships of confidence and trust with new and existing patients
  • Help answer patient questions and address concerns before, during, and after examinations
  • Maintain/update accurate and secure electronic patient medical records

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, sanitary office, including the preparation of examination and treatment rooms prior to each appointment
  • Accompany patients to examination or treatment room, interview patients, measure vital signs, update patient information and changes in medical history, and prepare patients for examination and/or treatment. Enter drug screen results and vitals to EMR.
  • Complete PDMP checks on each patient prior to an office visit and review any findings with the medical provider.
  • Coordinate telehealth office visits with patients and remote providers.
  • Maintain patient records for clinical use, medical records use, billing use, physicians' review, etc., and assist in the transition from hardcopy to digital formatting
  • Keep medical supplies well-stocked by notifying the office manager when orders for materials are necessary
  • Develop and maintain accurate scheduling databases for patient appointments to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate errors, and support decision-making
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement by taking an active role in patient experience and satisfaction

Skills and Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or certification in medical assistance or other medical fields
  • Multiple years of experience as a medical assistant in a healthcare facility
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of patient management software systems
  • Superior communication skills
