Medical Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs all clinic nursing functions, as well as required laboratory procedures and administrative duties as requested by supervisor. Acknowledges and responds appropriately to the hospital’s customer relations philosophy, including the five fundamentals of the AIDET program. Prior Authorization and Referral Experience a plus! Bilingual preferred.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Ensures the general cleanliness and professional appearance of each exam room prior to and after each patient encounter. Escorts the patient into an exam/treatment room and prepare the patient for the appropriate exam. Obtains chief complaint, vital signs, and other pertinent patient information and records on the patient’s chart.

2. Obtain blood, urine, and other patient specimens and prepare them as necessary for in-house clinic testing or shipment to MCMC laboratory, as directed by the Physician or Physician Assistant. Perform lab testing procedures on specimens according to procedures established by laboratory director.

3. Assist the Physician/Physician Assistant as needed in all aspects of patient care that are within the individual capabilities of the Medical Assistant.

4. Order and stock medical and laboratory supplies. Maintain sample medications to include stocking, inventory and disposal of expired medications. Maintains supplies of injectable medications and vaccines, including ordering, inventory and disposal of expired medications.

5. Assumes responsibility and is self-motivated.

6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
