- Provide direct patient care and ensure a safe, clean clinical environment with adequate supplies
- Conduct pre-visit planning and initiate screening protocols, identifying tests and vaccines due per UDS measures and CDC immunization guidelines
- Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, recording visit reasons and medical history, performing medication reconciliation, and verifying allergies and recent medical visits
- Perform blood draws, heel sticks, and waived tests with accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring proper patient identification and order verification
- Prepare and label laboratory specimens completely according to policy guidelines
- Monitor patient flow through the clinic, communicating delays and expectations to providers and patients
- Facilitate continuity of care by scheduling appointments, coordinating with the healthcare team, and maintaining clear communication through phone, written reports, and electronic messaging
- Assist with medication fills, durable medical equipment (DME) requests, and referral processing
- Provide professional chaperone support during sensitive procedures including breast exams, pelvic exams, and well-child visits
- Gather instruments and materials for procedures and provide procedural assistance to medical providers
- Clean, prepare, and sterilize instruments following standard precautions and autoclave protocols
- Maintain strict infection control practices including proper hand hygiene, PPE use, biohazard waste disposal, and safe injection techniques
- Maintain accurate and complete patient medical records
- Assist with patient translation and help distribute patient communications
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (required for direct patient care)
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in clinical tasks
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential
- Previous experience in a clinical or healthcare setting
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems
