Medical Assistant - Clearwater & Largo, FL

Overview:
We are hiring a Medical Assistant in Clearwater, FL to support our Academic Alliance in Dermatology practice. This role will travel between our Clearwater and Largo locations, assisting providers in both general and cosmetic dermatology.

Schedule
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays (4 days per week)
Hours: 6:00 AM - 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch)

Responsibilities:

What You’ll Do:

  • Welcome patients into the clinical setting, confirm identifiers, and guide them through their visit
  • Collect and document vitals, medical history, and reason for visit in the EMR
  • Prepare exam rooms and assist providers during medical and cosmetic dermatology procedures
  • Set up instruments and supplies, ensuring everything is ready prior to each appointment
  • Handle specimen collection and processing, including labeling and coordinating with appropriate labs based on insurance requirements
  • Provide patients with clear instructions for treatment plans, medications, and post-procedure care
  • Act as a point of contact for patient questions, phone calls, and clinical messages, ensuring timely follow-up
  • Support daily clinic operations by managing task lists and maintaining efficient patient flow
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment by sterilizing equipment and adhering to infection control standards
  • Track inventory, restock supplies, and remove expired items as needed
  • Accurately document patient interactions and assist with additional clinical or administrative tasks as needed
Qualifications:

What We’re Looking For:

  • Ability to recognize patient concerns and respond appropriately within a clinical setting
  • Understanding of safety and compliance standards, including HIPAA and OSHA
  • Prior experience in a hands-on patient care role (Medical Assistant, CNA, or similar)
  • Comfortable supporting procedures and working in a clinical environment
  • Familiarity with EMR systems and general office technology
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology; exposure to coding is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with patients and team members
  • Able to stay organized and manage multiple responsibilities throughout the day
  • Team-oriented with a flexible approach to changing clinic needs
  • Open to traveling between clinic locations as required
Licensure/Certifications/Education:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant (CMA/CCMA) or CNA program is preferred; candidates with a bachelor’s degree on a pre-med or pre-PA track are also encouraged to apply
  • Prior clinical experience (1-2 years) in a Medical Assistant, CNA, or similar patient care role preferred
  • Dermatology experience is helpful but not required
Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires the ability to remain active throughout the day, including extended periods of standing and walking. Responsibilities may involve bending, reaching, and handling clinical supplies and equipment.
  • Candidates should be comfortable using their hands for clinical tasks, communicating with patients both in person and by phone, and lifting or moving items up to 30 pounds. Exposure to clinical environments, including sharps, chemicals, and infectious materials, should be expected.
