About Beacon Kalamazoo
Beacon Kalamazoo provides 24/7 emergency care and a Level II Trauma Center. We deliver care for serious life-threatening injuries/illnesses, and your everyday health needs, including labor and delivery. We offer specialty care for heart/vascular disease, lung and sleep disorders, mental health conditions, and women’s health. We offer a wide range of outpatient services, including diagnostic imaging, lab tests, respiratory therapy and rehabilitation therapy services.


What You’ll Do

As a Medical Assistant, you will reports to the Practice Manager and works under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor and Office Supervisor. Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs various clerical and patient care duties. Responsibilities include assisting the physician in support of medical care, answering the telephone, admitting and discharging patients, and performing data entry.


Medical Assistant Job Responsibilities

Clerical and Administrative Duties:

  • Greet patients and visitors professionally; provide assistance as needed.
  • Answer phones, take accurate messages, and manage patient communications.
  • Collect and input patient information for records, payment, and EMR systems.
  • Maintain patient files, charts, and records.
  • Schedule office or hospital procedures, admissions, and follow-ups.
  • Maintain physician calendar and coordinate with scheduling systems.

Patient Care Support:

  • Record medical history and prepare patients for examinations.
  • Assist physicians and nurses with procedures, minor emergencies, and surgeries.
  • Perform routine lab tests, EKGs, and collect specimens.
  • Administer and record medications and injections as ordered.
  • Educate patients by interpreting physician instructions.
  • Monitor supplies and sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Triaging calls, managing medication refills, and following up on compliance.
  • Preload patient information into EMR, including diagnostic, surgical, and health history.

Professional Development and Department Support:

  • Attend meetings, participate in committees, and engage in educational programs.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned to support department effectiveness.

What You Bring

As a Medical Assistant, you will demonstrate knowledge and competency in performing patient care procedures, observations, treatments, and techniques utilized by the facility, including venipuncture, EKGs, and other practice-specific procedures such as treadmills. You will exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills to consistently greet and interact professionally with patients, visitors, staff, and other internal and external contacts. You will possess knowledge of billing, office procedures, and computer systems, as well as analytical skills necessary to solve patient issues and interpret data. You will promote collaboration and innovation within clinical services to support an interdisciplinary approach that enhances healthcare delivery and the quality of patient care.


Required Qualifications

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must be a minimum of 17 years of age.
  • Must be Certified or Register Medical Assistant through either (1) successful completion of a Certification Exam or (2) through successful completion of an approved two-year Medical Assistant Program and successful completion of a Certification Exam.
  • Previous medical office experience requited
  • The ability to speak and write Spanish is desired.
