Duties
- Review and interpret medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes with precision.
- Prepare and submit accurate claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to insurance companies and third-party payers.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection practices, ensuring prompt resolution.
- Verify patient insurance information, eligibility, and benefits prior to billing to prevent delays.
- Maintain comprehensive and organized medical records, including documentation of coding decisions and billing activities.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or coding discrepancies for accurate billing.
- Stay current with changes in medical coding standards, including updates to ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, and compliance regulations.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, as well as HCC coding.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for billing and coding processes.
- Understanding of insurance claim submission procedures and medical collection practices.
- Knowledge of medical office operations, including appointment scheduling and patient record management is preferred.
