Medical Billing Specialist

Job Overview

Responsibilities

• Review and verify medical documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness for billing purposes
• Assign appropriate CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) and ICD-10 codes based on medical records and provider notes
• Prepare claims electronically using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by communicating with our billing company and resolving discrepancies
• Manage medical collections by contacting patients regarding outstanding balances and setting up payment plans when necessary
• Maintain detailed records of billing activities, claim statuses, and payment histories in compliance with healthcare regulations
• Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and billing regulations to ensure ongoing compliance

Experience

• Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or revenue cycle management within a healthcare setting is preferred
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards
• Familiarity with ICD-10, CPT coding systems, and medical billing procedures
• Experience working with EMR or EHR systems for claim processing and record keeping
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to analyze complex medical data accurately
• Effective communication skills for interacting with insurance providers, patients, and healthcare staff
• Prior experience in medical collections or account follow-up is preferred
