Duties

• Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using current CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) coding systems.
• Review medical records to ensure proper documentation aligns with billing requirements and coding standards.
• Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility before claim submission.
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies to maximize reimbursement.
• Maintain detailed records of billing activities within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for audit readiness.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures requiring precise ICD coding.
• Stay current with industry regulations, updates in medical coding standards, and compliance guidelines to ensure accurate billing practices.

Experience

• Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or related healthcare administrative roles. Experience with Tribal Health billing a plus
• Strong knowledge of DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems.
• Familiarity with EMR and EHR systems used for managing medical records and billing data.
• Excellent understanding of medical terminology and healthcare documentation requirements.
• Prior experience in medical collections or accounts receivable management is preferred.
• Ability to interpret complex medical records accurately to assign appropriate codes for billing purposes.
• Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
