We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical AR/Billing Assistant to join our growing healthcare team. This individual will support the billing department by ensuring accurate claim submission, payment posting, insurance follow-up, and patient account resolution. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of medical billing processes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced medical office environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit electronic and paper claims to insurance carriers
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits
- Review claims for accuracy and completeness prior to submission
- Post insurance and patient payments accurately
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims in a timely manner
- Resolve billing discrepancies and patient account inquiries
- Process refunds and adjustments as needed
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements
- Assist with month-end reporting and reconciliation
- Answer phones
- Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and insurance companies
Qualifications
- Minimum 1–2 years of medical billing experience required
- Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding
- Familiarity with EHR/Practice Management systems
- Strong understanding of insurance guidelines including Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO, PPO plans
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a specialty medical practice (e.g., ENT, orthopedics, cardiology, etc.)
- Experience with clearinghouses and electronic claim submission
- Bilingual (Spanish or Arabic) a plus
