Medical Courier – Independent Contractor (Healthcare Logistics) – Chicago & Surrounding Areas

Green Healthcare Logistics is seeking professional Independent Contractor (1099) medical couriers to support regulated healthcare transport throughout Chicagoland and surrounding areas including, Wisconsin, Indiana & Michigan.

We provide structured healthcare logistics services supporting laboratories, hospitals, blood banks, pharmacies, research facilities, and veterinary networks.

This opportunity is ideal for experienced drivers who understand time-sensitive delivery, compliance standards, and professional facility interaction.

Available Routes:

  • Early morning routes (as early as 4:00 AM, including airport runs)
  • Day routes
  • Evening routes
  • Overnight routes
  • Monday through Sunday route availability

Routes typically average 4–8 hours depending on assignment. Contractors may select available routes based on their availability.

Responsibilities:

  • Transport medical specimens, veterinary samples, pharmacy products, and regulated healthcare materials
  • Maintain documented chain-of-custody procedures
  • Follow time-sensitive routing requirements
  • Utilize smartphone scanning applications
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Maintain clean and professional vehicle condition
  • Communicate with dispatch regarding route updates

Preferred Certifications (Priority Consideration & Higher Compensation Considered):

  • HIPAA Privacy & Security Training
  • Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) Certification
  • Cold Chain Handling Training
  • Dry Ice Handling Certification
  • Medical Courier Specimen Handling Training
  • DOT 49 CFR Familiarization
  • UN3373 / Category B Awareness
  • TWIC Certification (for airport-related assignments)
  • TSA -PreCheck

Certifications are not required to apply; however, priority consideration and premium route opportunities may be offered to certified medical couriers.

Vehicle Requirements:

  • Reliable car, SUV, minivan, cargo van, or small box truck
  • Vehicle less than 10 years old
  • Registered, insured, and properly maintained ($100k/$300k limits)
  • Clean cargo area suitable for medical transport

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Acceptable driving record (No moving violations in past 3 years; no DUI/DWI in past 5 years)
  • Ability to pass background screening and drug testing (as required by client facilities)
  • Smartphone with GPS capability
  • Comfortable using mobile applications

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent entering and exiting of vehicle
  • Extended periods of driving
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions

Compensation Structure:

Compensation is structured per route, per stop, or per mile depending on assignment.
The hourly range listed reflects estimated equivalent earnings based on typical route duration.

Higher-paying assignments are available for certified and experienced medical couriers.

This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity. Contractors are responsible for vehicle expenses and applicable taxes.
