Medical Director – Community‑GoHealth Urgent Care

Hybrid – Indianapolis, IN Market

Summary

The Medical Director for Community-GoHealth Urgent Care will lead, counsel, and engage a frontline clinical workforce of physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. The focus of this role is to ensure the highest level of care delivery and a high standard of customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Direct identification, development, and implementation of programs that advance clinical quality, patient safety, and operational excellence across the market.
  • Participate in strategic and operational planning for the market’s urgent care network, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and JV partner expectations.
  • Represent the Company and the market in professional, community, or partner‑related activities to enhance visibility and strengthen relationships.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with local providers, specialists, emergency departments, and community agencies to support referral pathways and bi‑directional patient flow.

Clinical Leadership & Provider Oversight

  • Provide direct patient care as required by contractual obligations.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and manage physicians, APPs, and regional clinical leaders to ensure a high‑performing clinical workforce.
  • Oversee provider scheduling, staffing, leave requests, and workforce planning to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Serve as the primary clinical authority in the market, responsible for quality of care delivered.
  • Collaborate with regional hospitals in network.

Operational Excellence & Collaboration

  • Partner with the Market President and operational leadership to drive standardized workflows and clinical‑operational alignment.
  • Facilitate design and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and operational workflows.
  • Collaborate across markets and teams to optimize performance and support initiatives improving clinical, financial, and customer‑service outcomes.

Quality, Safety & Performance Improvement

  • Establish and maintain quality metrics related to clinical effectiveness, safety, patient experience, and provider performance.
  • Direct quality improvement initiatives, chart audits, performance reviews, and corrective action plans.
  • Ensure adherence to escalation protocols, clinical guidelines, and standards of care.
  • Lead or support educational initiatives, competencies, and professional development.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, new programs, and enhancements to workflows or technologies.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, JV agreements, and Company policies.
  • Cooperate with surveys and inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, compliant coding, and appropriate EMR use.

Financial Leadership

  • Support operational leadership in fiscal performance, including P&L and EBITDA accountability.
  • Partner with the Market President on planning, budgeting, forecasting, and evaluation of growth opportunities.
  • Analyze staffing, productivity, volume trends, and patient experience metrics to support operational and financial performance.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Participate in equipment planning, new technology implementation, safety assessments, and evaluation of clinical resources.
  • Provide routine reports to leadership, governance bodies, and JV partners.
  • Perform additional administrative or clinical duties as needed.

Teaching & Professional Development

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, competency development, and ongoing education for clinical providers.
  • Provide training on EMR functionality, equipment use, clinical guidelines, and organizational priorities.
  • Participate in patient education initiatives and community forums as needed.

Qualifications

Education Required

  • M.D./D.O. degree from an accredited College of Medicine.
  • Board certified in Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, or Med‑Peds.

Licensing/Certifications Required

  • Current state physician licensure (or willingness to obtain).
  • Current board certification in respective specialty.

Work Experience Required

  • 2+ years of clinical leadership/administrative experience in emergency medicine, urgent care, or related field, preferably in a major medical center or health system.

Work Experience Preferred

  • Experience in a multi‑site healthcare organization with cross‑location management.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Proven track record of building and leading high‑performing medical teams.
  • Strong analytical, management, delegation, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • Outstanding communication and leadership abilities across clinical and non‑clinical stakeholders.
  • Flexibility managing multiple responsibilities and centers simultaneously.
  • Strong professional presence and authority in internal and external relationships.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong presentation skills for clinical and administrative audiences.
  • Experience with data analytics and performance metrics.
  • EMR super‑user skills preferred; EPIC super‑user preferred.
  • Strong understanding of provider scheduling, workforce planning, and staffing to volume.
  • Ability to lead through influence and drive engagement and accountability.
  • Excellent judgment, interpersonal skills, and ability to work cross‑functionally.
  • Patient‑facing role requiring collaboration and leadership across teams.

Additional Requirements

Travel

  • Ability to travel between facility locations and remote sites as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Extended use of computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, squat, and reach frequently.
  • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs occasionally; push/pull up to 100 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods; may require use of infection‑prevention safety equipment.
