Position Summary
The Emergency Medicine Medical Director – Mon Medical Center is responsible for the development and implementation of clinical and administrative processes within the emergency medicine service line. This role ensures the delivery of high quality, safe, and efficient patient care while fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Director will champion the mission and vision of Vandalia Health North, supporting a highly motivated and engaged provider group and ensuring smooth department operations.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Oversight
- Provide clinical direction and leadership to the emergency medicine service line across Vandalia Health North.
- Deliver comprehensive, coordinated medical care to adult patients, including preventive, maintenance, and acute care.
- Maintain staff privileges at designated hospitals to facilitate admissions and care coordination.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and serve as a mentor and resource to providers.
Administrative & Operational Management
- Oversee all patient care and professional activities within the emergency medicine service.
- Collaborate with System Emergency Medicine Medical Director to ensure satisfactory and consistent implementation of processes and practices.
- Collaborate with Lead APP and Nursing leadership with service line to ensure appropriate support for and communication with all staff.
- Work in conjunction with Hospitalist group and Critical Care group to ensure processes that drive high quality patient care.
- Coordinate provider schedules and ensure adequate shift coverage.
- Monitor and improve clinical performance through evidence-based programs and processes.
- Address patient complaints and support patient experience initiatives.
- Oversee utilization review activities and ensure compliance with documentation and coding standards.
- Participate in Medical Executive committee for relevant facilities.
Quality & Compliance
- Work with the CMO to prioritize and improve clinical quality metrics.
- Support compliance with regulatory standards, QI/QA processes, and medical record requirements.
- Participate in relevant quality committees and meetings, including but not limited to sepsis, stroke, trauma).
- Assist with hospital accreditation and certification efforts.
- Promptly report potential risk management issues to the CMO or appropriate parties.
Team Development & Communication
- Participate in recruitment, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions for providers.
- Ensure appropriate clinical development and supervision of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs).
- Lead regular staff meetings to communicate organizational initiatives, performance updates, and clinical issues.
- Champion adoption of EMR enhancements and population health initiatives.
Qualifications
- Licensed to practice medicine in the State of West Virginia.
- Board certified in Emergency Medicine.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Emergency Medicine.
- Demonstrated leadership in a community-based, culturally diverse healthcare setting.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records and clinical data systems.
