Position Title: Medical Equipment Specialist (Consultancy – Design & Construction)
Location: Doha, Qatar
Contract Type: Fixed‑Term, 36‑Month Project
Reporting To: Project Manager – Healthcare Infrastructure
About the Role
Our client, a leading healthcare development firm operating in Qatar, is seeking an experienced Medical Equipment Specialist to join a high‑visibility, multi‑disciplinary consultancy team. The specialist will provide technical expertise throughout the design, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of medical equipment for new hospital facilities and major upgrades. This role demands a deep understanding of clinical workflows, international equipment standards, and construction coordination within a fast‑paced, multicultural environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesAreaResponsibilitiesDesign & Planning• Review architectural and MEP drawings to integrate medical equipment layouts that meet clinical and regulatory requirements.
- Produce detailed equipment specifications, data sheets, and technical submittals.
- Conduct space‑planning studies, ensuring adequate clearances, utility connections, and ergonomic considerations.Procurement & Vendor Management• Prepare Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and tender documents for medical devices and related services.
- Evaluate vendor proposals, perform cost‑benefit analyses, and recommend preferred suppliers.
- Negotiate contracts, warranty terms, and service agreements.Construction Coordination• Liaise with architects, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers to resolve clashes and ensure seamless installation.
- Conduct regular site inspections, verify compliance with design intent, and address any non‑conformities.Installation & Commissioning• Oversee the delivery, unpacking, positioning, and connection of equipment.
- Supervise functional testing, performance verification, and validation against manufacturer specifications and local regulations.
- Prepare commissioning reports, as‑built documentation, and hand‑over packages for the client’s Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team.Quality & Compliance• Ensure all work complies with Qatar Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) standards, ISO 13485, IEC 60601‑1, and other relevant international guidelines.
- Maintain a robust QA/QC register for equipment installation activities.Documentation & Training• Develop Operation & Maintenance manuals, preventive‑maintenance schedules, and training curricula.
- Deliver training sessions to Clinical Engineering staff and end‑users on equipment operation, safety, and troubleshooting.Project Management Support• Provide technical input for project scheduling, risk registers, and cost control.
- Participate in progress meetings, prepare status reports, and flag any schedule or budget impacts related to medical equipment.Required Qualifications & ExperienceRequirementDetailsEducationBachelor of Science (BSc) in Engineering (Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline).Professional CertificationNot required to be a member of the Qatar Unified Professional Development Authority (UPDA).Industry Experience• Minimum 15 years of total professional experience in medical equipment engineering, procurement, or commissioning.
- At least 7 years of experience performing a similar role (design, installation, or commissioning of hospital equipment).Sector Exposure• Proven experience working on hospital projects in Qatar is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated consultancy background in design & construction of healthcare facilities (international exposure a plus).Technical Skills• Strong knowledge of medical device standards, hospital workflow, and clinical requirements.
- Proficiency with CAD/BIM tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) for equipment layout.
- Familiarity with procurement platforms and contract administration.Soft Skills• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with attention to detail.LanguagesFluent English (written & spoken). Arabic proficiency is an advantage.LegalEligible to work in Qatar and able to obtain any necessary work permits.What We Offer
