JOB TITLE: Medical Front Desk Check-Out Representative

FSLA CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

JOB OVERVIEW: As the final practice representative, the Medical Front Desk Check-Out Representative is responsible for greeting patients, visitors, and representatives at the end of their visit in a timely and courteous manner. The representative will review clinical orders with patient and ensure patient understanding. Representative will schedule next appointment with patient and make arrangements for further testing as ordered by the provider.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Greet all patients, visitors and representatives in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Review clinical order with patient and ensure patient understanding.
  • Answer phone calls with a pleasant, helpful tone and direct urgent calls according to practice guidelines.
  • Schedule next appointment or make arrangements for further testing.
  • Check out patients and complete patient tracking in EMR.
  • Schedule diagnostic testing as ordered by provider.
  • Fax dictations as requested.
  • Scan documents and import faxes.
  • Count Petty Cash and update daily log along with Check-In representative.
  • Maintain professional office appearance at front desk, waiting area, and restrooms.
  • Unlock front door at the beginning of day and lock front door at the end of the day.
  • Complete all tasks within predetermined timeline.
  • Abide by HIPAA and other regulatory compliance guidelines.
  • Engage in cross-training with other practice positions in the organization as determined.
  • Perform other duties as requested

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Minimum of two years of medical experience preferred
  • Ability to operate a multi-line phone system
  • Good computer skills to include Windows based applications
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance a plus
  • Continuing education obtained as needed to perform duties
  • Strong time management and organization skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to understand and implement verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for long periods every day
