Position Summary

Performs diagnostic testing following standardized procedures on patient samples which aids physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Qualified to perform high complexity, moderate complexity, and waived testing. Qualified to work in all sections of the lab if required.


Responsibilities

  • Performs moderate to high complexity testing and waived diagnostic testing on patient samples

  • Performs quality testing and assesses acceptability of results to ensure accuracy of patient results generated by highly complex analyzers

  • Resolves problems with assistance from a Manager, Supervisor or MLS as needed

  • Interprets results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits, and communicates results to providers per standard policies

  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field

  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology required

  • Documented training as part of MLT program in clinical laboratory science focused on Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology and Blood banking required

  • MLT (ASCP) certification required; if certified with an agency other than ASCP, obtaining an MLT (ASCP) certification is required within 3 years of hire

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to maintain a sitting position

  • Must be able to maintain a standing position

  • Must be able to stoop or crouch

  • Typical equipment used in a clinical job

  • Must be able to reach arms above or below shoulder height

  • Must be able to move or traverse with/without accommodation

  • Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
