Medical Laboratory Technician Shift Lead

Job Summary:

Responsible for the operation of the Laboratory on the evening, night or weekend shifts. Conducts a variety of laboratory tests and duties according to established laboratory procedures, and in compliance with Cherokee Nation Policies and Procedures, Rural Health Guidelines and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA '88) and College of American Pathologist regulations, or any other applicable rules, regulations and guidelines while working under the supervision of a Laboratory Supervisor and/or Laboratory Director.


Job Duties:

Functions as a Shift Supervisor and technical advisor on the evening, night or weekend shifts and is responsible for the total operations, including directing and or training subordinates working during their assigned shifts. Conducts a variety of laboratory tests and duties according to established laboratory procedures, and in compliance with Cherokee Nation Policies and Procedures, Rural Health Guidelines and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA '88) and College of American Pathologist regulations, or any other applicable rules, regulations and guidelines. Promptly notifies the lab supervisor of shift problems/issues beyond their immediate resolve. Notifies providers when test results will be delayed. Ensures that staff working during their assigned shift adhere to all safety policies. Other duties may be assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a lead position.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Associate's degree from a 2-year college or technical school; or two years (60 credit hours) coursework from a 4-year college or university in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology or Microbiology; or three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

At least two years' experience.


COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must be a registered Medical Laboratory Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologist or American Medical Technologists and maintain throughout employment.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).


Must obtain CPR certification within six months of employment and maintain throughout the employment period. Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
