Medical Office Assistant

Job Overview

Duties

  • Manage patient check-in and check-out processes with professionalism and warmth, ensuring accurate data entry into Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or eClinicalWorks
  • Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility verification, and handle medical billing and collections using systems like Athenahealth or Dentrix
  • Schedule appointments efficiently using medical scheduling software; coordinate with providers to optimize daily clinic flow
  • Review and update medical records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintaining meticulous documentation review practices
  • Assist with front desk duties including answering multi-line phone systems, practicing excellent phone etiquette, and managing patient inquiries
  • Support clinical staff by preparing exam rooms, managing intake forms, and handling medical supplies inventory
  • Perform accurate coding using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/10 (International Classification of Diseases), and ICD coding standards for billing purposes
  • Maintain organized filing systems for medical records, ensure proper documentation of care plans, and support health information management efforts

Experience

  • Prior clinic or medical office experience is required; familiarity with dental terminology is a plus for dental clinic settings
  • Proven experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks is essential
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding standards, and medical billing procedures
  • Experience in insurance verification, Medicare processing, and handling medical collections is highly desirable
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) and office management software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional patient service in a busy healthcare environment while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines
  • Bilingual skills are advantageous for serving diverse patient populations effectively
  • Strong clerical skills including typing (including 10-key), filing, data entry accuracy, and multi-line phone system operation are essential

Job Type: Temporary

Pay: $14.50 per hour
