Responsibilities

AKUH is in search of a Medical Officer for our Oncology team who will work under the supervision of the team's attending physician, actively participating in the overall care and coordination of patients. Under guidance of team members, you will be responsible to:

  • Assist in administering cytotoxic chemotherapy and transfusing blood and blood products in day care and inpatient settings under consultant supervision.
  • Support the assessment and monitoring of patients before, during, and after chemotherapy administration.
  • Enter chemotherapy orders for inpatients as advised by consultants.
  • Assist in prescribing and monitoring post-chemotherapy medications as directed.
  • Observe and assist in performing outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as lumbar puncture, intrathecal chemotherapy, paracentesis, bone marrow aspiration, and trephine biopsy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely record keeping.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support quality patient care.
  • Participate actively in outpatient clinics, journal clubs, and departmental learning sessions.
  • Collaborate closely with nurses, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals in providing safe and effective oncology care.

Requirements

You should have:

  • An MBBS degree; candidates with MCPS, FCPS-I or MRCP-I completed shall be preferred.
  • A valid PMDC license and BLS certificate.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ relevant experience (proven experience in oncology or a related field is preferred).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the attending physician and other members of the oncology team.
