The Medical Program Coordinator is responsible for overall administration of the agency’s medical program. The goal is to ensure that free medical services are available, and accessible, to all victims of sexual offenses in our community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Recruits and oversees training for new SANE nurses joining our program.
  • Schedules and implements trainings for the agency’s SANE nurses in accordance with standards set forth by the New York State Department of Health, the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN), and the National Children’s Alliance.
  • Holds quarterly meetings for all agency SANE nurses and partner agencies to discuss program updates, best practices, changes to guidelines, and any challenges encountered.
  • Meets, at a minimum annually, with hospital administrators and/or staff to discuss the SANE program, best practices, current guidelines, and any challenges encountered.
  • Participates in continuing education training in forensic procedures and related subjects to remain current in best practices and guidelines.
  • Oversees the agency's Child Advocacy Center (CAC) Regional Medical Program to include ensuring a proper space is available to utilize for medical exams, and all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Assists in scheduling medical exams for child victims, explains the medical exam to the child and/or their non-offending caregiver, as needed, communicates with medical providers about the medical appointments made and assists with completing Office of Victim Services forms for reimbursement of the medical exam and potential future expenses related to the abuse.
  • Provides guidance to staff, contracted nurses, law enforcement, caseworkers, prosecutors and other partner agencies about best practices, techniques and general health related information when requested for current/ongoing cases.
  • Educates staff and team members about the purpose of the Child Advocacy Center medical exam and/or SANE exam.
  • Attends agency meetings to include Child Advocacy Center case review meetings to provide program updates, guidance, and expertise on cases being discussed.
  • Tracks competencies and continuing education of all the current contracted SANE’s and Child Advocacy Center medical providers.
  • Provides direct services to victims of sexual assault and/or sexual abuse in a hospital setting, as needed.
  • Ensures proper contracts and linkage agreements are in place for the SANE program and the CAC Regional Medical Program.
  • Completes onboarding for all new contracted nurses and medical providers to include reviewing all program procedures and requirements with them, ensuring a background check is completed, giving tours of the medical facilities, and other tasks as required by the medical program.
  • Participates and/or coordinates public awareness and education presentations in schools, community centers, and other public forums that are designed to inform crime victims of specific rights and services and provide them with services and assistance.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to work well and communicate with clients of various ages, races and backgrounds.

  • Must be able to deal with a variety of emotions during stressful situations and be able to work with people who may be very upset.
  • Must possess strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Must participate in supervision, professional development and on-going training activities.
  • Must be willing to travel throughout the tri-county region (Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence) for meetings, trainings and to provide services.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related program, human services, criminal justice, or related field, preferred.
  • Two years of management experience preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Must be able to travel out-of-town for training or other work-related purposes on occasion.
  • Must have reliable vehicle that can be utilized for work.
  • Must maintain personal automobile insurance with a liability coverage limit of $100,000/$300,000
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Must submit to and pass a criminal background check and child abuse background check

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $48,000.00 - $51,000.00 per year
